The Magical Quality of Armpits

filmmaker

project: short film

partner: Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre

tools: iPhone 12, Premiere Pro

I created this experimental silent film to explore the boundaries of visual cinema, focusing unexpectedly on a rarely celebrated canvas: the human armpit.

Using only an iPhone 12, I transformed an overlooked body feature into a landscape of textures and forms. This intimate study challenges viewers to reconsider their perceptions of the body and what constitutes artistic subject matter.

This silent foray into the most under-appreciated part of the body resonated with curators internationally, earning screenings at YOUKI International Youth Media (2022), Vector Festival (2023), and Arts & Climate Collective Festival (2023). Now distributed by the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre, this project demonstrates how unorthodox perspectives can expand the language of cinema while inviting audiences to discover beauty in unexpected places.
